If you need to be seen by your doctor but are too unwell or other circumstances make it not possible for you to come to City GPs you may request a home visit (this is a service only available to our registered patients).

Please telephone as early in the day as possible and discuss your situation with one of our practice nurses.

Home visits cost somewhere between $100 and $180 depending on the time and travel involved.

Routine childhood immunisations are free and these are listed in the Tamariki Ora Health Book. We strongly advocate vaccination and our practice nurses will be pleased answer any questions you may have.

The seasonal influenza vaccine is available from March each year. It is free for those over 65 years and all those with chronic medical conditions, including children. We apologise but we no longer offer on-site workplace vaccinations.

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination update

From 1 January 2017 eligibility for funded HPV vaccine will be extended to include males aged 9-26 inclusively and females aged 20-26 inclusively, in addition to girls aged 9-20 who are currently funded.

From the start of the 2017 school year, the school-based Immunisation Programmes will provide Gardasil© (HPV vaccine) to both male and female students in year 8 at school.

Immunisation with Gardasil© provides protection against the two highest cancer risk HPVs and the two highest genital warts risk HPVs.

  • Non-resident students: to be eligible, must be aged under 18 years and have a valid visa for at least 9 months from starting the HPV immunisation course.
  • Males and females aged 26: must have their first HPV vaccine dose before they turn 27 to be eligible to complete a funded course of HPV vaccines.
  • Women aged 20-26 years: who have not been previously vaccinated against HPV have the opportunity to complete the course of vaccinations through their doctor.

Medical examinations

City GPs provides special examinations for insurance, pre-employment and other purposes such as diving, trade vehicle licenses and for vehicle licenses for those aged 70 and over.

We understand that the best place for rehabilitation to the workplace after an accident is in the workplace.  With this principle in mind we have special relationships with a number of employers who are keen to help their employees remain at work.

A 30 minute appointment is usually needed for special medical examinations except for motor vehicle license examinations where (for our enrolled patients) 15 minutes is usually long enough. It isn't usually possible to deal with other health matters during a special purpose examination.

This service is available to registered and non-registered patients.  Please discuss your needs with a receptionist or practice nurse.

Screening refers to checking for the earliest signs of or risk factors for disease in people who are well.  When the earliest signs of risk or actual disease is detected it is often possible to prevent progression or make changes to prevent the appearance of disease.

City GPs encourages screening and early detection and we are happy to talk to you about the different screening programmes.

Traveler's health

City GPs offers travel medicine services to our registered patients. We provide a comprehensive service covering safe travelling, staying well and any vaccinations recommended.

Vaccination before travel is one of the most important preparations for travel.  Ideally, some vaccinations need to be started several months in advance so please call to discuss your plans with one of our nurses as soon as possible.

Please note, City GPs do not provide the Yellow Fever vaccination. If you think you may need this vaccination we advise you to speak to one of our nurses and they will be able to assist you.

Before coming to City GPs for a travel consultation, please download and complete our travel questionnaire. This will need to be brought with you to your appointment, along with any documentation you have of previous vaccinations.

We recommend you visit this website as a useful guide for travelers: fitfortravel.nhs.uk

Well woman/man checks

We recommend that you discuss with your doctor how often you should have a wellness check.

Before your consultation your doctor may want blood tests done so that results will be available to discuss with you. During you consultation your doctor will discuss your family and personal medical history as well as undertaking a physical examination. A calculation of cardiovascular risk can be made and goals set for health protection and promotion if needed.

Please call your doctor's practice nurse to discuss and arrange an appointment.

A well man or well woman check will usually take 30 minutes and cost the equivalent of a double consultation.
